Lilith, the primordial she devil, or screech-owl and The Curse of knowledge

I cannot remember ever having a book on Kindle then becoming so frustrated that I could not physically mark the passages that I bought it in hard copy. I continue to be inspired by Delphine Horvilleur’s ‘In Eve’s Attire’. Having added it to my bookshelf I then decided to present it to a friend who unlike me is a religious Jew, I have now again become frustrated by not being able to scribble in my Kindle and ordered a second hard copy for myself.

Two snippets of knowledge:
I never new that the verb ‘secrete’ and the noun ‘secrets’ had the same etymology from the Latin word secretio (Separation).

It never occurred to me that the reason we refer to menstruation as ‘the curse’ is because it refers to Eve’s curse for desiring knowledge and being expelled from Eden.

Eve had a less well known ancestor who was Adam’s first wife, Lillith who was also expelled from Eden but who was so dangerous to her kinsMEN for seeking sexual knowledge and freedom that she was not only expelled from the myth of Eden but from the Old Testament too where there is only one reference to her as the screech owl in the Bible in Isaiah 34:14

The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; the screech owl also shall rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.
